Dom Rafael
Dom RAFAEL is a non-profit center of integrated health and social care for seriously and long-term ill patients and their families. Located in a calm green area of Petržalka in Bratislava, it provides long-term care, short-term nursing stays, hospice and palliative care, as well as specialized support for people with dementia and other severe conditions. The organization is built on close cooperation with families and a strong community commitment to delivering dignified, high-quality care where it is most needed.
Challenge
The Dom RAFAEL website was built on a custom CMS developed earlier by an external developer. While the system technically worked, the editorial team needed reassurance, that they could manage content independently and comfortably – without relying on developers for every update.
During initial testing, several usability and structural issues emerged, mainly around the “Aktuality” (News & Updates) section:
- Limited control over featured images and galleries
- Unclear handling of article authorship
- Confusing automatic labels (e.g. “Articles in month XYZ”)
- Chronological ordering of monthly archives in the menu (oldest first instead of newest)
- Inconsistent breadcrumb navigation and menu naming
- Uncertainty whether multiple images could be added to a single article
Revolware’s Approach
Revolware reviewed the CMS from the editor’s point of view and focused on practical, real-world improvements rather than rebuilding the system from scratch. Revolware:
- Verified and demonstrated how editors can add multiple images directly into articles
- Simplified article layout by removing unnecessary author fields
- Adjusted or removed automatically generated headings that could not be meaningfully edited
- Fixed the ordering of monthly archives so the most recent content appears first
- Unified breadcrumb navigation and clarified menu structure
- Provided clear explanations and guidance so the team could confidently manage content on their own
Where technical limitations existed, we proposed clean and understandable workarounds that respected the original CMS architecture.
Result
After the adjustments:
- The Dom RAFAEL team was able to fully manage news and updates independently
- Content creation became faster, clearer, and less error-prone
- The website structure became more intuitive for both editors and visitors
- No ongoing technical support was required after delivery
